It is nice to hear from someone whose dear relatives who not only lived in this building, but managed it as well. Please see the next comment about the stairs.
Yes, I was referring to the interior staircase. As for pictures, I was interested in old exterior ones. The current steel railings on the balconies were originally cement railings/balustrades.
I used to live on the 3rd floor, the apartment on the left with the rounded balcony facing State St. I moved in through apartment mart. I was originally supposed to move in a couple buildings over on Danforth, but the day i went to move stuff in, one of the maintenance men told my roommate and I the apartment wasn't finished. Apartment Mart said they would move us in to an apartment next door, pay the same amount of rent we had been paying, and when the apartment was ready we would be able to just go right over. We ended up staying in this building for a full year. When our apartment was finally ready, they had raised the price on us. My time in 59 State was amazing though. My favorite apartment I have lived in. Loved the old phone in the hallway of our apartment and the balcony views were amazing.
My grandparents lived and managed this apartment building through the 70's and 80's. It is a gorgeous building! Beautiful staircase etc..

DeleteStaircase is now enclosed due to fire code. Do you have any pictures from that time (or earlier)?
ReplyDeleteI assume you mean the interior stairway is now enclosed. I do not have any photos of the interior at all.
