McGeachy Hall, Portland Maine

  2. Only that it was not always McGeachy Hall, it was Vaughn Hall. MMC changed the name, but has belonged to them for many years. The student nurses used to reside there as far back as 1960. When I was kid we used to climb the fence to the reservoir next to the building (now a parking lot for MMC) to try the water, but the slopes of the reservoir were to slippery to chance it. Now with that info, you might be able to come up with something, but that's all I have for now. My best guess is that it was built as a place for doctors to have their private practice offices in close proximation to the hospital. There is another place on Chadwick Street that started its' life the same way.

    1. I was a nursing student at MMC and lived at Vaughn Hall until 1965 when I graduated.

  3. I just did a quick search on Vaughan Hall, and came up with the fact that it was newly renovated into student nurses quarters in 1940. Link:http://www.mainememory.net/artifact/8657

  4. McGeachy Hall primarily serves outpatient psychiatry and acute day-program psychiatry services.
