Dunkin Donuts, High & Congress Streets, Portland Maine 1975

  1. I took a Google trip down nostalgia lane. I searched for a photo of my first full time job and I found it here! It was at the Dunkin Donuts on the corner of High and Congress Streets in Portland, Maine 74-75ish. I worked the 11 PM to 7 AM shift Sunday night through Thursday night. When I got off on Friday morning I didn't have to go back to work until 11 PM Sunday night. I even got 1 week of paid vacation a year. I lived in an apartment at 13 Sherman Street just a couple of blocks away. My rent was 33 dollars a week all utilities included except the gas for my kitchen stove and my telephone. I brought home 63 dollars a week after taxes. Minimum wage was 2.00 dollars an hour but I started there at 1.80 for a few months before it was raised. This photo was taken in 1975 so it is what it looked like when I worked there. There are some wild stories to tell about what would happen there after the bars closed up at 1:00 AM.

    1. I am glad you found the photo and took the the time to comment. I worked on the police department during the years you mention, and certainly agree about many stories to tell.
