    1. Although I haven't done any work on this site for years, I still leave it up because I grew up in the West End too-Emery Street near Pine. John.

    2. I actually grew up in Thornton Heights, South Portland, in the same house I still live in, 75 years later. I use to ride my bike to Union Station very often, sometimes early in the morning and staying most of the day. (I did the same with the Rigby Yard where I was occasionally given a ride on an engine. Same with the Portland Municipal Airport and the Port-o-Maine Airport, although I never got a free flight!) I became known at Union Station as a nerdy kid but one who knew enough to stay "out of the way", and not enter areas where I shouldn't. I have vivid memories of going with my Mom, Dad, and sisters to watch my brother leave for Army duty in the Korean War, having been Federalized from the National Guard. (He came home safe, but that's a whole other story!) Anyway, I wanted to request your permission to re-post this photo on a couple of other sites (with proper credit of course) adding a few comments. And I love the work that you do with your other sites.
